This policy covers the Daywisp Windows application, including the version distributed through the Microsoft Store, and the daywisp.io website.
The short version
Daywisp has no Daywisp account, advertising, analytics or automatic crash reporting. It does not sell personal information. Your videos, settings and saved places stay on your computer. A wallpaper only contacts its public data source while you preview it or have it applied, and the requests it makes are listed below.
Your desktop and files
Daywisp displays local videos and visualizations of public observations. Your selected video files are read on your device; Daywisp stores references to them and does not copy, upload or delete the original files. Removing a video from the library only removes its reference.
The app stores its library, settings, selected places and coordinates in library.json in its Windows application-data directory. In an unpackaged installation this is %APPDATA%\life.valhalla.wallplayer; Windows manages the corresponding location for a Microsoft Store installation. Settings can include video paths, labels, aircraft and Night Sky coordinates, display choices, selected repositories and feed preferences.
Public observations, such as GitHub commits, ISS orbital elements and market prices, may be stored in bounded local cache files with source timestamps and request deadlines. Aircraft positions and Wikipedia events are held in memory rather than recorded to disk. A local desktop.log of up to 256 KiB records desktop attachment and recovery events; it is designed to exclude coordinates, addresses, media paths, credentials and feed contents. Logs are never uploaded automatically.
Location and address lookup
Location is entered by you; the app does not request Windows geolocation. Pasting or saving coordinates does not itself send a lookup request. If an aircraft wallpaper or preview is already active, saving a new location changes the active data request.
Choosing Lookup sends the address or place text you entered to the Photon service operated by Komoot, which uses OpenStreetMap data. Daywisp does not save the raw search text. A chosen result's coordinates and label are stored locally.
Previewing or applying the public aircraft feed sends the chosen latitude, longitude and radius to adsb.lol. This may reveal a precise home location if you enter one; you can use a nearby public location instead. If you choose a local ADS-B receiver, the app contacts that receiver on your network instead of adsb.lol.
Night Sky computes star and Moon positions on your device from your saved coordinates. Its optional ISS layer requests orbital elements for the ISS from CelesTrak without sending your coordinates. Reusing the aircraft location in Night Sky requires the explicit reuse control.
Network requests for wallpapers
Opening the collection does not activate any feed. A feed connects when you preview or apply its wallpaper. An unapplied preview stops when you leave that view or hide the window; an applied wallpaper continues while the app is in the system tray, subject to your pause settings. External links in reading guides open only when you select them.
| Feature | Recipient and request content |
|---|---|
| Live aircraft and address lookup | adsb.lol receives the chosen location and radius. Photon/Komoot receives search text you explicitly submit. A selected local receiver receives its configured request. |
| Solar Wind, Ocean Motion, Tide Room | NOAA receives fixed public-feed requests or the selected public buoy or tide-station identifier. |
| Earth Pulse | USGS receives a request for the selected public earthquake time window. |
| Living Wikipedia | Wikimedia receives a public EventStreams connection. Language selection is filtered on your device. Daywisp discards editor usernames, IP addresses, edit summaries and article bodies. |
| Code in Motion | GitHub receives the selected public repository and branch request. The app keeps bounded commit metadata and discards author names, emails, signatures, source code and diffs. |
| Night Sky (optional ISS layer) | CelesTrak receives a request for the ISS orbital elements, without your coordinates. |
| Market Watch | Gold API receives the selected supported asset symbols (Bitcoin, gold, silver). |
| Grid Flow | NESO's Carbon Intensity API receives a fixed public generation-mix request. |
| City Pulse | Oslo Bysykkel/Urban Sharing or Citi Bike receives requests for that city's public station information and availability. |
| Block Flow | mempool.space receives fixed public Bitcoin network-data requests. No wallet or personal transaction history is requested. |
Like other internet services, these providers can observe your network IP address, the request time and ordinary HTTP metadata such as the app's User-Agent. They have their own privacy practices, and Daywisp does not control their server records. Daywisp never sends your local video files to them.
City Trains, Pizza Watch and stock quotes are not part of the current Microsoft Store release. If a future release adds them, or any other hosted service, this policy will be updated before that feature is enabled.
Purchases and licence checks
Microsoft Store builds ask Windows to verify the current user's app entitlement before loading saved wallpapers or starting data services. They repeat this check approximately every 15 minutes and after a detected resume or system-clock change. Windows may use its cached entitlement while offline. Daywisp accepts an active paid or trial licence and stops if Windows cannot confirm one; it does not save its own successful-licence flag. These checks use Microsoft's Store services, which are covered by Microsoft's privacy statement.
Purchases are handled entirely by the Microsoft Store. Daywisp never receives payment-card details and has no checkout, account or subscription system of its own.
Retention, choices and deletion
You can stop a wallpaper, pause playback, change the selected feed or disable optional features at any time. Use a public location instead of a precise home coordinate if you prefer. Closing the window keeps the app running in the system tray; choose Quit in the tray menu to exit completely.
Saved settings and library references remain until you change or delete them. Cached public data are bounded and replaced as newer observations arrive; request-budget timestamps can remain so the app respects provider limits. To erase local app data, quit Daywisp and remove its application-data directory, or uninstall the Microsoft Store app. This never deletes your original video files.
Daywisp does not upload support diagnostics. If you email us for support, we receive only what you choose to send, use it to answer you, and delete it once it is no longer needed for that purpose. Review any log file before attaching it.
The daywisp.io website
The website is a static site served through Amazon CloudFront. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or third-party scripts. Like any web host, Amazon Web Services processes standard request data such as IP address, requested page and browser User-Agent to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Children
Daywisp is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes and contact
This policy is versioned by its effective date. Material changes to the data the app handles or the services it contacts will be published here and reflected in the Microsoft Store listing before they take effect. Questions or requests about privacy can be sent to support@daywisp.io.
